Fish tank dedicated in Haley’s honor
Today was a special day for our family. Since our first days at Texas Children's Hospital began in March of 2020, their fish tanks were life savers for us, often offering a moment of distraction for a 20-month-old entering a whole new world. The fish tanks were something to look forward to on our “walks” in the morning while we “lived” in the hospital, even naming certain fish silly names, and checking on them every time we visited the waiting room. Their fish tanks were special to us. No matter the location, Main Campus or The Woodlands, Haley and I knew where every single fish tank was and they always helped us to pass the time and make her feel better.
Early on in our journey we always said we wanted to have Haley’s name on a fish tank at Texas Children’s one day. After Haley’s passing, it became even more meaningful for us to do so, dreaming that it would be years from now. However, with the help from our family and friends that supported Haley’s Legacy Fund through donations to Texas Children’s, we were able to achieve that dream much sooner than ever imagined!
On June 13, 2022, we dedicated a fish tank on the 8th floor of Texas Children’s West Tower in Haley’s honor. Currently located on the Renal Dialysis floor, it will soon change to become part of the Bone Marrow Transplant unit. Haley’s mark will now forever be in a place where kids like her spend so much of their time. We pray that every caregiver and child that sees her fish tank will experience the same amount of joy our Haley Girl did and forget for just a moment the treatment they are undergoing.
We are so thankful to everyone we worked with at Texas Children’s and every single person that donated in Haley’s honor to help make this dream a reality in such a short period of time. Keep scrolling below to view some of our favorite pictures with the fishes—from both then and now.
